Because We Can (2013): Nuevo single de Bon Jovi

Este nuevo single parece que va a marcar el resto del disco, aunque una vez lo he escuchado varias veces (y después de asustarme al escuchar la versión que hay colgada en Youtube) no me parece demasiado destacable.

Antes de empezar a comentar la canción, hacer mención al usuario de Youtube que ha colgado la canción  en ese servidor, no la escuchéis de ahí, parece que la hubiese gravado con un teléfono movil u otros utensilios para grabar la canción más rudimentarios, algo de cutrerío para una canción que debe de haberle costado una pasta por Itunes (el único lugar donde puede adquirirse legalmente la canción).

Empecemos por la disección de este tema:

- 00:00 -> 00:04: Inicio prometedor de la canción con Tico Torres de protagonista

- 00:04 -> 00:20: Empieza a cantar Jon Bon Jovi con ciertos efectos en su voz, se puede deducir en segundo plano a Sambora, pero algo que pasa muy desapercibido.

- 00:20 -> 00:30: Acordes de la guitarra de Sambora, pinta bastante bien de momento la canción.

-00:30 -> 01:06: Richie cede todo el protagonismo conseguido en los anteriores segundos de repente con la voz de Bon Jovi, se echa de menos algún ritmo de guitarra, ya que únicamente se digna a hacer algún palm mute y el Bajo acompaña a la voz del cantante. La letra de esta primera estrofa no está nada mal, muy al estilo de las producciones de la banda de New Jersey.

- 01:06 -> 01:24: La estrofa de la canción, lo único destacable de ella es la letra algo mejor que la de las estrofas. Destacar también los ligeros coros que se van sucediendo a lo largo de todo el estribillo, ergo no es tan carismático como lo fue We Weren’t Born To Followo What do you got?. Así que es de esperar alguna mejora en la canción (o en los próximos singles)

-01:24 ->01:29: Los mismos acordes de Sambora, ahora más difuminado.

-01:29 -> 01:45 : Segunda estrofa y mayor concentración de palm mutes, tiene algo más de ritmo que la primera estrofa. Mucho más rápida y amena que la anterior, todo hay que decirlo.

-01:45 -> 02:03: Segunda vez que repiten el estribillo.

-02:03 -> 02:21: Un coro bastante ligero que alarga el estribillo 

-02:21 -> 02:41 : El solo de guitarra, breve pero necesario. Este solo tiene un ritmo bastante peculiar, pero que nos puede hacer recordar al de Captain Crush and the Beauty Queen from Mars, un sonido que es pegadizo pero que tiene cierto carácter original. A destacar el final de éste, con una sublime progresión y uno de esos trucos que tanto le gustan a Richie.

Because We Can: The New Bon Jovi single

This new single looked like it was going to set the tone for the rest of the CD, but once I had listened to it four times (including the terrible YouTube version), I don´t think it is particularly noteworthy.

Before I continue, I should warn all the readers that when any new song is released (whoever the artist), don’t use YouTube to listen to it. You will hear a low-quality version of the song that sounds like it was recorded on a mobile phone, instead of a copy that was paid for on iTunes – the only place you can legally download the song.

Let’s analyse the lyrics:

-00:00 -> 00:04: The song begins with Tico Torres as the main player

-00:04 -> 00:20: Bon Jovi begins to sing, and we can just about hear Richie Sambora in the background.

-00:20 -> 00:30: Sambora begins playing some guitar chords, and the song sounds quite good..

-00:30 -> 1:06: Richie hands over the spotlight to the voice of Jon bon Jovi. Some guitar rhythms would have gone well here because we only can hear some clapping and the bass. The lyrics of this first verse are acceptable, and similar to the other songs by the New Jersey band.

-1:06 -> 1:24: The chorus of the song - the only good thing is it´s better than the verses. There is a small chorus from the other members of the band, but it’s not as powerful as in the previous two singles We Weren’t born to follow or What do you got? So let´s hope there is some improvement in the other singles on the album.

-1:24 -> 1:29: The same chords from Sambora …now quieter.

-1:29 -> 1:45: The second verse of the song, now with more clapping, it has more rhythm than the first, is faster and more entertaining.

-1:45 -> 2:21: Second and third repeatition of the chorus.

-2:21 -> 2:41: The guitar solo is here…short but necessary. This solo has a very peculiar rhythm which sounds like the rhythms in Captain Crash and the Beauty Queen From Mars, a sound that is sticky but original. Finishes with a sublime progression and one of those tricks Richie likes so much.

-2:41 ->2:58: The chorus again, which includes every member of the band beginning to play their respective part In crescendo.

-2:58->3:20: Chorus, chorus and chorus…we can hear that Richie and the others are there…

-3:32 -> 3:54: The same guitar solo with the peculiar rhythm repeated throughout the song

-3:54 -> 4:03: End of the song.

In conclusion, Bon Jovi has returned to the scene with a new sound… more different than I wanted, but not going back to the origins of the band (as I expected). This new sound does not highlight the guitarist which I don´t like…I thought Richie would have more importance in the other songs on the album. The sound of this song reminds me of No apologies, This is Love or The More Things Change but without the input Sambora had in those Greatest Hits songs.

I wouldn’t be surprised to find some of those songs in the new CD, but we will have to wait and see. Hopefully it won´t be too long until we find out, and that the other songs don’t follow the same style of this single.
